January Blues

Is January over yet?

I don’t know what it is, but January always seems like a lull to me, and thus, the January Blues arrive.

The fun Christmas festivities have ended and it is no longer acceptable to pig out on chocolate and cheese. You are expected to be on some rapid health kick whilst drinking green juice – which I can’t believe any one actually really likes – and the new years resolutions that you were so keen to tackle have slowly subsided into the background. Asks.

I hate to wish the weeks away, so to ease the January blues I decided I would put together my top five favourite blue nail polishes in my collection for January. I guess if you can’t beat the blues, why not embrace them –literally!

Barry M’s Blue Grape is a gorgeous hi-shine cobalt blue. Vibrant, opaque and eye-catching, its gelly texture requires 1-2 coats and can look beautiful in both the winter and summer months. It is also a dupe for Nails Inc Baker Street, (i.e. the polish Beyonce was spotted wearing in her first pictures with Blue Ivy, and thus everyone went crazy over it) so if you were looking to get your hands on the look, this is a great alternative at a fraction of the price!

Essie in Bikini So Teeny
Bikini So Teeny is a beautiful periwinkle blue with subtle silver micro shimmer that took over the blogging world when it was released in 2012. Four years later, it is just as loved as it is still relevant. With a creme texture it translates relatively sheer, therefore I would recommend 3 coats to reach the ultimate opaque finish but it really is stunning. I do have to say it is a polish that screams summer, however it is the perfect pick me up shade when your feeling a bit, meh – plus the name is the cutest.

Essie in Style Cartel
Apologies as it is another Essie polish here, but I just could not pass this shade up. Style Cartel is a deep indigo blue creme that leaves the most stunning shiny gloss to the nail. I have to say this is the most glossy nail polish I own that doesn’t require a top coat, and it always makes me feel like I have had a fresh shellac done. It is theperfect transitional shade.

Barry M’s Matte Nail Paint in Malibu is certainly a summer shade. Just because our weather hasn’t got the memo yet (i am so over the cold now), it doesn’t mean we can’t embrace those beautiful summer brights that we all love. Malibu is a bright cyan matte blue that requires just one coat to reach full opacity. It dries quickly due to it’s matte texture and overall looks gorgeous.

Orly Nail Lacquer in In The Navy
Last but certainly not least is Orly’s Nail Lacquer in In The Navy. Back to the darker shades, which is probably much more appropriate for this time of year, In the Navy is a deep royal navy blue with fine iridescent glitter flecks. The shimmer is very subtle, but gives it a very beautiful hint reflect to the strikingly vibrant shade. This is one of those interesting shades that looks bright but deep all at the same time, and I would probably say this is my favourite blue in my collection at the moment!

What are your favourite pick me up shades?

Until Next Time, Emma x
