First Impressions: Benefit ‘Roller Lash’ Mascara

When I heard that Benefit was releasing a new mascara, I was definitely intrigued to get my hands on it and test it out. I absolutely love their ‘Their Real’ Mascara, it is one of their bestselling products and I can see why. It is one of the only mascaras that I think “Yeah, that definitely deserves the hype it receives”. Released at the end of the month, Benefit teamed up with ELLE to give their March edition readers the opportunity to try the product first with a generous sized sample of the product. When you consider that the mini version of ‘Their Real’ mascara is £9, you get the magazine and the mascara for just £4 – it is definitely something to get your hands on before it sells out.

The Benefit Roller Lash has been in development for four years! Wow, no wonder this awaited release is an anticipated and exciting one. They kept to what they do best with gorgeous packaging and an inventive play on words name. In the full size addition the packaging has a lid that looks emulates a hair roller, which is quite unique and different. I love the pink and black theme and with the name it projects a very 1950’s vibe. The mini version is just adorable, but then again they all are!

The Roller Lash promises to give you the same effect as hair rollers do, with the tag line being ‘a curls best friend!’ – Applause for that tag line right there. The mascara claims to be a ‘revolutionary new super curling and lifting mascara which will lift your lashes and leave a long lasting curl’. A ‘roller for your lashes’ it claims to provide a curl that will open up the eyes and leave a girly doe-eyed effect. In terms of the brush (which is the main focus) it has a never seen before ‘Hook ‘n’ Roll’ brush which has small rubber hooks that catch each individual lash and give them a gorgeous curl and lift.

The first time I applied this product I instantly saw the curling action. My natural lashes are an okay length I suppose but in terms of curl they are quite straight. Because of this (and due to laziness too)  I tend to just wear false lashes everyday because they are so much easier and quicker to apply. This on the other hand gives the opportunity to showcase my natural lashes without having to use an eyelash curler and take a long time applying mascara. The hook ‘n’ roll brush really does grip the lash and you can visibly see the lift after just one coat of application. For super curl & length, benefit say to apply roller lash first to curl & lift your lashes then layer they’re real! lengthening mascara on top. I am definitely interested in trying this out.

For my first few applications I have to say I am really impressed with this product. Do I prefer it to the Their Real? Possibly not but thats due to preference of length over volume and curl but If I used them together they may possibly be the ultimate dream team! I will update you on that situation soon! If you want to try out the Roller Lash definitely try and get your hands on ELLE’s March edition soon, I am sure they will sell out fast!

Did you manage to test the Roller Lash out? What were your thoughts? Do you prefer it to the Their Real?

Until Next Time, Emma x
